I beg you Europe, forgive the EU Inc lobby group, for they don’t know what they are doing
Europe, mother of civilization and cradle of reason, I implore you to forgive this collective calling itself EU Inc, for their blindness is not malice, but the result of their own ignorance. Forgive them Europe, because they do not know they are not the fruit of talent nor the market, but the artificial product of a financial laboratory
They were born when your interest rates were negative and money was not a reward for effort, but a sedative to prevent a generation from burning the streets after the Euro crisis. You gave them a false purpose, you called them "entrepreneurs" so as not to call them precarious workers and you handed them billions through VC funds and public subsidies like one who builds an unnecessary bridge to create jobs. They believed they were saving the future, when they were merely operating as a sophisticated tool of social peace financed by the European Central Bank
Europe, forgive their current arrogance, for they do not understand the laws of economic physics. During the pandemic years, when unicorns sprouted like miracles, they convinced themselves that their genius was the cause, ignoring that G20 central banks had fired the greatest monetary bazooka in history. They confused the expansion of the monetary base with their capacity to generate value. They failed to understand that the value of their companies was not real but nominal, and that it rose simply because there was nowhere else to put so much new money while supply chains broke and globalization slowed down
Today, now that the magic has evaporated, when inflation has returned the cost to money and reality reclaims its place, their reaction is not one of humility, but of panic. Please, have mercy, for it is not their neocortex but their amygdala that has taken command. They have entered a desperate war against time and against the very system that suckled them
It is here, Europe, where your forgiveness is most necessary, for in their agony they have become dangerous. Seeing that the cycle has ended, instead of learning to surf the new reality, they have entrenched themselves in the offices of politicians to demand laws that might stall their decline. They are forcing norms that break our rules of coexistence and twisting European treaties so that their business model (which never generated real wealth, only expectations) might survive one day longer at everyone’s expense. They have become authoritarian because they cannot accept that they are the end of an era, not the beginning of a new one
I beg you Europe, do not allow resentment to cloud your judgment when you see them lobbying for unfair privileges or attacking the democracy they claim to defend. Look upon them with the compassion deserved by those who drown while attempting to legislate against the tide, for the truth is that their industry is fading out, and they, quite simply, do not know how else to respond
