And they are forcing us to ask the question that technocracy wanted to avoid: What do we Europeans truly value?

I hate to be the one to say it, but National Socialism is making a comeback in Europe
I am not talking about the old German movement, but the political concept. An ideological recipe that combines two usually opposing forces: moral conservatism (right-wing) and economic protectionism (left-wing). This model seeks to defend tradition, family, and the homeland, but simultaneously demands State intervention, subsidies, and protection from the global market. It is the potent cocktail of "God, Country and Subsidy" that is winning voters today
To understand why this is happening, we must look at the collision of two major revolutions simmering in Europe
The first is the economic revolution born from the 2008 financial crisis. This was the moment the capitalist system shot itself in the foot. People realized the economy had become an abstract monster, something that lived in the clouds of finance and made decisions that ruined lives on the ground. Society began to demand the market serve the people again, rather than people being sacrificed to serve it. They want the economy to feel local and human, not an uncaring god
The second is the sovereignty revolution. Around 2019, the EU doubled down on "integration" trying to fuse countries together faster than ever. For many this felt like driving a car at 200 mph without checking the brakes. Nations realized they had handed over the remote control of their homes and regulations to unelected bureaucrats in Brussels, losing control over their borders, laws, and taxes. Naturally, the public is now trying to take those keys back. They are tired of men in suits in foreign offices telling them how to run their lives
These currents have brought us to a historical breaking point. Traditional parties that insist "nothing is wrong" are sinking like the Titanic while the "nationalsocialist" parties are sweeping the boards. We see it with Fratelli d'Italia, RN in France, Vox in Spain or AfD in Germany. While some portray them as monsters, they are a direct democratic response to problems ignored for decades. Leaders like Meloni have flipped on the lights, forcing everyone to look at the mess hidden under the rug
Regardless of whether we agree with their ideas, their democratic value for the voice of the people is incalculable. They are the emergency handbrake being pulled because the European train was headed for the ravine of dehumanization. They are forcing a halt to an integrating machinery that seeks only efficiency at all costs no matter who falls and they are forcing us to ask the question that technocracy wanted to avoid: What do we Europeans truly value?
It is now up to us to decide what we are willing to leave behind in the name of progress and which parts of history we want to take with us into the heart of our collective future. Thanks to this "nuisance," we can no longer walk in our sleep. Now we must choose whether we want to be a community with a soul or simply the most efficient market in the world
