Humans, chill, you are not going to be replaced by AI

Do not fear the machine, no matter how fast it is; you are still the one who decides what is yet to happen

Humans, chill, you are not going to be replaced by AI

In recent times, the Big Tech bosses have bombarded us with promises of an infinite intelligence that will soon do everything for us

It is normal to be afraid when you hear that a machine can do things better than you, but I want to explain why that fear is based on an illusion

The reality is much simpler to understand if we strip away the marketing wrapping: artificial intelligence is not intelligent at all

What we call AI is not a mind that thinks, knows, and reasons, but a simulation of all that

Thinking consists of weighing options to make one's own decision. Real intelligence is having judgment, knowing how to choose what is right. AI is not a mind that chooses or weighs options, but a tool that has read everything we humans have written and calculates which word has the highest probability of following another

It is, in essence, the largest rearview mirror in history. Everything the AI "knows" is our past, our achievements, and our statistics. It represents what we already are, but it can never represent the future, because tomorrow is a territory that is only conquered through will, something the machine completely lacks

The biggest difference is that you have a body that feels. You have hunger, cold, fatigue, and desires. That need to survive is what pushes you to act; you wake up every morning and feel curiosity or love without anyone ordering you to. In contrast, the machine is pure silence until you ask it for something. Without an external instruction, the AI desires nothing, does not get bored, nor does it decide to seek the cure for a disease on its own initiative

While the human being is a "question machine" that creates problems even where there are none, AI is a digital slave that only optimizes the paths we have already traced. It is reactive, not proactive

Additionally, there is something machines cannot do: feel the weight of their decisions. If you make a mistake, you suffer the consequences, it hurts or you lose something important. That risk is what gives value to what you do and what forms your character. A machine has nothing to gain and nothing to lose; if it gives you bad advice, it feels no guilt and doesn't lose sleep

Only you can decide if something is right or if it has value for you. AI doesn't know what "the best" is, it only knows what is "frequent." And here lies the danger for those who surrender to it: what is common is, by definition, the opposite of what is incredible. If you ask AI to decide for you, you condemn yourself to mediocrity, because it will always choose the average

What is truly valuable, what moves the world, is that which is not yet written or thought, that which is born from an intuition, a different way of seeing the world or a risk that no one has taken before. For AI to generate something unique, it will always need a human to provide it with something unique.

That is why, in a world where content can be created effortless, what will be truly valuable will not be doing things fast, but having the judgment to know what is truly worth doing

In essence, AI is a formidable tool for solving the "how," but the human being remains the absolute owner of the "why" and the "what for." AI can optimize the most efficient route to a destination, but it cannot decide that it is worth traveling to Ithaca even if the journey is long

Without your purpose and your desire, all that calculating power is just noise. Do not fear the machine, no matter how fast it is; you are still the one who decides what is yet to happen
